Organic Lions Mane Mushroom Coffee
The Lion’s Mane Mushroom (Hericium erinaceus) occurs in North America, Europe and Asia. The colour of the wig agaric is white to light orange. The mushroom can have a diameter of 25 centimeters. The wig mushroom is popular in Chinese cuisine. After harvesting the Lion’s Mane mushroom is processed into a fine powder. Lion’s mane is considered an endangered species in most of Europe due to over-harvesting in the wild. We grow and freeze dry our lion’s mane on site here in Lee on Solent.
Organic Lion’s mane is purchased for its refined taste, which is described as “lobster-like”. That is why Lion’s mane, or Hericium erinaceus, is often used as a component in meat substitutes. Location of the Lion’s mane
The white to grey-white lion’s mane mushroom is found in Asia and North America, but also surprisingly close to home: in Europe and in several places in the Netherlands. The mushroom can grow up to 25 centimetres in diameter. Lion’s mane is very popular in Chinese cuisine but is increasingly finding its way into European cuisine, thanks to its deliciously rich flavour.
There are lots of reasons why adaptogens such as medicinal mushrooms and coffee work amazingly well when paired together. The first, is with adaptogenic coffee you get all the benefits of drinking normal coffee but also minimising any side effects (think jitters, racing heart and anxiety). Caffeine is a nootropic all on its own, it increases our alertness and attention by blocking our adenosine receptors (which make us sleepy). However, on the flip side, caffeine can also increase our cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and cause more jitters, racing heart and anxiety.
Adaptogens such as medicinal mushrooms may help balance the body’s cortisol levels, which allows us to enjoy our lovely coffee and get the benefits of caffeine without the nasty jitters etc! Mushroom coffee has been shown to be beneficial to people who are caffeine sensitive, which allows them to reap the benefits of caffeine without the above mentioned side effects.
